Chapter 10: Farewell, Ikuto

Ikuto looked at Amu with curious eyes. "What is it?" he asked softly. He was intrigued. Amu stared up at him and tried to think of a way to tell him how she feels. "Ah, um…" she began as she started to blush, "Can you at least send me a postcard..?" Amu asked stupidly. Ikuto's expression changed. He looked less-concerned now. "Sure." he answered quietly. Then he hugged her slightly and jumped up into the night sky. He went to return the Embryo to get his freedom. "I'm such an idiot…" Amu said out loud unknowingly, "But he can finally be free now… I don't want to be selfish… He deserves his freedom…" Amu said softly with a tear rolling down her cheek. She wiped it away and started to walk towards her house.

"Let's go home guys…" she said in almost a whisper. "Amu-chan…" Ran said with concerned eyes. Yoru left with Ikuto, so Amu transformed with Ran again and flew home. She was quiet the whole time she flew. She felt bad about what had happened. "He wanted me to say it…" she thought miserably, "I could see it on his face…" Then she remembered exactly how he looked when she told him she had to tell him something. His eyes widened with excitement, but when she told him that other thing, his eyes got disappointed. Some more tears streamed down her cheeks and she didn't bother wiping them away. The wind was drying them anyways.

She finally made it home and went into her room through her window that is always unlocked. "I hurt him…" she thought. "Why do I always hurt people?!" Amu yelled out loud. "I hurt everyone that I lo-" she stopped herself from saying the word. Then she changed into her pajamas and slipped into bed. She closed her eyes and drifted to sleep. Amu's alarm clock woke her up the next morning. She groaned and smacked it with her hand, hoping to turn it off, but it fell and rang even louder. "Ugh!" she grunted as she got out of bed and turned it off properly.

Amu changed into her school uniform and headed downstairs. "Amu-chan! Where are you going??" Ran asked, confused. "What are you talking about?" Amu mumbled, "I'm going to school, where does it look like I'm going?!" "It's Sunday.." Miki pointed out. Amu stopped in her trail. "What?!!" she screamed. Then she stomped back upstairs and slammed her door shut. "Amu? Why are you angry, desu~?" Suu asked in a quiet voice. "Because I'm an idiot!" Amu yelled. "What did you do this time..?" a casual voice asked. Amu turned her head towards her window. "I-Ikuto?!" she gasped.

"You really gotta stop doing that… Who else would it be?" Ikuto whined as he invited himself in Amu's room. He walked over to Amu and stopped in front of her. "So it turns out that egg wasn't the Embryo." he admitted. "Oh.. I'm sorry.." Amu said in a soft voice. She stared up at him and looked deeply into his eyes. He looked away. "What?" she demanded. "Oh nothing…" he said sarcastically. Then he looked back at her with a smirk. "You don't want me to leave, do you?" he asked with a mocking smile.

"What on earth are you talking about!!! Of course I want you to leave! Then you can't harass me anymore, you pervert!!!" Amu blurted out. Ikuto patted her on the head. "You're so weird…" Amu said softly as she crossed her arms and faced the other way. Ikuto chuckled, and when Amu looked back at him, he was heading towards the window. "Wait, where are you going?" she asked curiously.

"I have to find the Embryo. I'm not going to give up. You're the one who said I should do this." he answered. And then he was gone. Amu stood there. "Goodbye Ikuto… I'm going to miss your visits, even though they're short and random…" she thought. Then Amu went downstairs and headed towards the front door. "Amu-chan, now where are you going?" Ran asked. "I'm going to help Ikuto catch the Embryo." she answered truthfully. "But Amu, don't you want him to stay longer??" Miki asked. Amu stopped when she was about to open the door. "Yeah…" she smiled to herself. Then she went outside.

"Then why are you going to help him? Then he'll get it sooner!" Ran blurted out. "I know, but this way I'll get to spend more time with him before he leaves…" Amu replied. Then her guardian characters were quiet. Amu raced out the front door and saw a tall, slender boy with blue hair up ahead. "Ikuto!!!" Amu shouted. Ikuto turned around and stared at Amu with a confused expression. Amu stopped in front of him and started to catch her breath. "Let…me…help…you…" she said between pants. He still stared at her, confused. "Why do you want to help me?" he said in his angelic voice.

Amu stopped panting and began to smile mockingly. "If I help you, then that means you'll be outta here sooner." Ikuto frowned, "That's not very nice." he pouted. Amu began to laugh slightly, and Ikuto began to join in. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and they began to walk. "Alright, I don't mind your company." he said in a casual tone. Amu blushed a little but let Ikuto's arm remain where it was. "Where should we start?" Amu asked. "I was thinking we should start downtown. I didn't get a chance to look there yet." Ikuto answered. Amu took Ikuto's arm off her shoulder and character transformed with Miki.

Ikuto character transformed with Yoru and then they both split up to search for the Embryo in different directions. Amu leaped up in the air and was running on top of the building roofs. She started scanning the horizon looking out for any X eggs, but she had no luck so far. "Ugh, I don't see any.." Amu whined. "Amu, you've only been looking for five minutes!!" Ran laughed. Amu was on a short building roof and took a big leap to try and go on the next building that was much taller. Amu didn't jump high enough and was now falling out of the air. "A-A-AAAAHHHH!!!!" she screamed. She closed her eyes in fear and opened them when she realized she never hit the ground.

Amu looked up and noticed Ikuto had grabbed her by her hand. He was struggling to keep her from falling but managed to bring her up onto the roof he was on. "What would you do without me.." he said in a quiet, yet amused tone. "I probably would've died a long time ago…" Amu admitted with a sweat drop. "True." he answered in his usual casual tone. He placed Amu next to him and he continued staring at her. Amu noticed. "W-What..?" she asked as she turned her head the other way so he wouldn't see her blush. "I'm trying to remember every detail about you so I won't forget when I leave." he said. Amu faced him again.

"I'm sure you won't forget me… Right..?" she asked quietly. He chuckled a little and then ruffled her hair. "Of course not. How can anyone forget their first love." he said in a soft and serious tone. Amu looked at him with big, shocked eyes. "I'm your first love..?" she asked with a small smile starting to form in the corner of her mouth. He didn't answer and looked out into the horizon. "The sun is going down." he pointed out. "Oh…" Amu said dully. Ikuto looked back at Amu. "You won't forget me, right?" he asked with a small smirk. Amu began blushing again. "How can I forget the pervy cat who stalks me?!!" she blurted out. Ikuto chuckled again.

Ikuto got closer to Amu and held her hand. "I'll walk you home." he said with a small, sincere smile. "O-Oh, ok.." Amu said softly. They transformed back to normal and began to walk to Amu's house. "I don't think my parents will like seeing me with a high school student.." Amu mumbled. "I know, so I'm just going to walk you to the beginning of your street." he answered. "My street is right up there." Amu pointed out. "I know." he said as he let go of her hand, "I'll see you tomorrow." he said with another smile. "Y-Yeah.. Hopefully we'll find the Embryo!!!" she lied. "You don't mean that." Ikuto said so low Amu could barely hear, and then he walked away. Amu just stared in awe.

"Amu-chan, do you really want him to go, desu~?" Suu asked. Amu drooped her head. "No…" she admitted quietly. "Then why'd you sound so excited when you said 'hopefully we'll find the Embryo!!!'?" Miki asked, a little confused. "Ugh, I didn't mean it.. I hope I didn't hurt his feelings.." Amu admitted. "Of course not Amu-chan!!! He knows you lov-" Ran got interrupted when Amu grabbed her and put her hand over her mouth. "SHHH!!!" Amu whispered, "Not so loud Ran!!!" "Sorry…" Ran mumbled with Amu's hand over her mouth. Then Amu hurried home.

When she got home, her mom turned her attention away from the stove to face her. "Amu-chan, where have you been? Dinner's almost ready." she said with worry in her voice. "I was just hanging out with some friends, Mom. No big deal." Amu lied. "Oh, were you with that nice Tadese-kun?" her mom asked as she faced toward the stove again. Amu had completely forgotten about him. "Um, no, not him.." Amu admitted in a low voice. "Oh? Then who?" her mom asked, barely paying attention. "No one important. Call me when dinner is ready!" Amu said quickly as she ran upstairs. She closed her door and went over to her bed.

"'No one important'?" Miki asked, "More like someone extremely important!!!" she laughed. "Shut up!!!" Amu hissed. "When are you going to tell him, Amu-chan???" Ran asked excitedly. "I hope it's soon!!!" Suu joined in with a big smile. Amu opened her mouth to answer, but then her mom said dinner was ready. Amu headed downstairs and sat at the table. She waited impatiently for her mom to place the food on the table. "Amu, are you in a hurry to go somewhere?" her mom asked curiously. Amu stopped fidgeting to answer. "No, I'm just ready to go to bed." Amu said with a fake yawn.  "Do you want to go to bed, sweetie?" her mom asked. Amu fake-yawned once more and nodded her head slightly and excused herself from the table. When she was out of her mom's sight, she ran to her room and closed her door.

"Amu-chan, where are you going?" Ran asked as she watched Amu hurry over to her window. Amu turned around to face Ran, Miki, and Suu who all had confused expressions on their faces. "I'm going to tell Ikuto." Amu admitted with a small, sincere smile. While Amu carefully climbed down her balcony, she could hear her Shugo Charas shriek with excitement. "Hop, step, JUUUUMP!!!" Ran cheered as she character changed Amu so she could fly to Ikuto faster. "A-AHHH!!! RAN!!!!" Amu yelled as she tried to control her flight pattern. When she finally managed to fly normally, she scanned the city below her to see if she could find Ikuto.

The first place Amu checked was the amusement park that would soon be torn down. "Not here.." she thought as she leaped back into the sky. She wondered if she should just wait until tomorrow to tell him how she feels, but the butterflies that flew excitedly in her stomach couldn't wait until then. Amu landed to catch her breath. "Don't give up!!" Miki encouraged. "I'm not… I'm catching my breath…" Amu replied while she panted a little. She looked around to see where she was, and then she recognized it was the place where Ikuto would sometimes play his violin at. Amu looked around a bit and tried to listen if she could hear his beautiful melodies that came from his violin, but all she could hear was the wind whistling between her hair.

"It's kinda dark now, I guess I should go.." Amu said softly. She turned around, and right when she was about to walk home, she heard the most beautiful sound. Amu stopped in her trails and listened to the soft, angelic music coming from behind her. Amu closed her eyes and began to smile. She let the wind blow in her face, and she tried to listen to the song closely. She noticed it was getting louder, and then she turned around. Amu's honey-gold eyes widened while a smile spread across her face. "Ikuto…" she breathed. He was playing his violin on the platform Amu sometimes saw him at. Amu walked a little closer to listen to the beautiful song. Amu observed Ikuto as he played this new lovely song Amu never heard. It was different than his other songs. This one sounded sweet, and soft, and the way he played with his eyes closed really showed this song came from his heart. When the heartful song came to an end, Amu finally spoke. "That was beautiful.." Amu said in a soft, sincere voice. Ikuto placed his violin back in its case and swung it over his should. Then he walked closer to Amu. "I made it for you." he said in a low, quiet voice. Amu looked up at him with shock. "But that song, it was so beautiful, and it's different than any of your other songs.. I'm not good enough for it.." Amu said sheepishly. Ikuto stared at her with caring eyes.

"Don't say that. You inspired that song. It's only different than my other songs because this time I played my love, not just notes." he said quietly as he lowered his head slightly closer to hers. Amu couldn't help her tears from rolling down her cheeks this time. She let herself cry. "I'm going.. to… miss you..!" Amu said between sobs. Ikuto held her close to his body and hugged her. Amu continued to cry, and he held her there until her tears turned into just sobs. When the tears stopped completely, he let her go from his grasp to get a good look at her. "I know you'll miss me." he said with a smile. Amu held back some more tears that were welling up. "Ikuto, I… I-" Amu began, but before she could finish her sentence, Ikuto had kissed her. And not on the cheek or forehead, he gave Amu her first kiss on the lips. And this kiss was special, because it was with the person she loves. And Ikuto doesn't need her to say it when he already knew.
